CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
Transversing Borders
The first annual Four Corners Graduate Conference theme aims to facilitate, deepen, and showcase the conversation about Transversing Borders in the field of communication. As four corners share the state borders and closely located within the tensions of inter/national borders, the conference centers our discussions about identity, cultural, and political formations within/without/across/above/below borders:
Paradigmatic engagements: Interpretive/post-positive, social science, critical theory
Identity and culture
Immigration and diaspora
Four corners (state/national borderlines)
Hegemony and whiteness
Intersectionality (race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, class, disability, etc.)
Out-of-bounds, LGBTQ identity formation
Local, national, international, and transnational context of communication
Inter/cross-cultural, national and inter/trasnational borders
Border health, equity, and equality
Imagined borders and materiality
Community engagement
Cutting edge of the borders: Journalism and media
Academic borders: Theory and praxis, pedagogy, and mentoring
Space, time, and subjectivity
Any topics in the communication field that do not necessarily center the theme of the conference are also welcome.

With the theme of Transversing Borders, we encourage scholars to address key questions such as:
How do we define borders?
How do bodies cross borders?
How does border appear in our life?
How do physiological/psychological boundaries exist within the particular society?
How does border connect and/or disconnect us?
What are the relationships between borders and identities/cultures?
How does border studies contribute to move forward and further interrogate communication discipline?
